Terms of use

Agreeing to this

Creating a CampusMart account means you accept these terms and the privacy policy. If you do not accept them, do not create an account. We will post any change here and update the effective date above, and we will tell you in the app if a change is significant.

CampusMart is operated from Ontario, Canada, and these terms are governed by the laws of Ontario.

Who can use CampusMart

• You are a current student at a university CampusMart supports, and you can prove it, either by signing in to your university's Microsoft account or by receiving a code at your university email address.
• You are at least 17 years old.
• One account per student. Your university email can only ever be attached to one account. This is the rule that makes ratings, reports and blocks mean something: somebody who could open a second account could walk away from every report ever filed against them.
• You give a real first and last name, and a photo of yourself if you add one. Classmates are deciding whether to meet you in person.
• The account is yours. Do not share it, sell it, or sign in as somebody else.

You can look around an unverified account, but buying, selling and messaging stay locked until your campus is verified.

The rules for anything you post

This covers listings, photos, videos, your profile, your messages, and reviews you write. Everything in this section is enforced, by a filter that refuses some of it outright and by a person who reads every report.

Never allowed

• Slurs and hate speech. Anything targeting race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender or sexuality.
• Harassment. Threats, intimidation, stalking, repeated contact after somebody has stopped answering, or sharing another person's private information.
• Sexual content. Nudity, sexual services, and any sexual content involving a minor. The last of these is reported to the authorities, not merely removed.
• Impersonation. Claiming to be another student, a university, or CampusMart.
• Scams. Taking payment for something you do not have, do not own, or will not hand over. Overpayment schemes, shipping scams, and requests to pay by gift card, wire transfer or cryptocurrency.
• Spam. Reposting the same listing repeatedly, advertising an outside business, or recruiting for one.

What you may not list

• Drugs of any kind, prescription medication, and vapes, tobacco or nicotine products.
• Alcohol. It is legal to drink at 19 in Ontario and still illegal to resell without a licence.
• Weapons and ammunition.
• Identity documents, and anything meant to be passed off as one.
• Coursework: essays, past exams, answer keys, or writing an assignment for somebody else. This breaks no law, and it is a fast way to get expelled.
• Live animals, stolen property, counterfeits, and anything you do not actually own.
• Anything you are not allowed to resell under your own agreement with whoever sold it to you.

When somebody breaks the rules

We can remove a listing, suspend an account, or remove an account entirely, and we can do it without notice when somebody is being harmed. A suspended account cannot browse, message or post, and its listings come off the feed immediately.

A suspension is reviewed by a person and can be reversed. If you think one is a mistake, email us from your university address and say what happened.

A suspension also survives deleting your account. Deleting removes everything you wrote, and it does not release your university email back for a fresh start. This is deliberate: otherwise deleting would be the documented way around a ban.

Meeting, paying, and what CampusMart is not

CampusMart introduces two students. Everything after that is between them.

• We are not a party to your sale. We do not own, inspect, warrant or guarantee anything listed, and we are not an escrow, a payment processor, or an insurer. No money passes through CampusMart.
• Verification proves a campus, not a character. It proves the person on the other end is a student at your university. It does not prove they are honest, and it is not a background check.
• Meet on campus, in daylight, somewhere busy. See the item before you pay for it. Keep the conversation in the app, because a report only means something when there is a thread behind it.
• You are responsible for your own taxes, and for any law that applies to what you are selling.

Your content, and who can see it

What you post stays yours. By posting it you give CampusMart permission to store it and show it to other students at your campus, which is the whole of what the app does with it, and that permission ends when you delete the content or the account.

You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, including any photo you upload.

Listings and profiles are visible to students at your school. Messages are visible to the two people in the thread. A moderator handling a report can read a reported thread, because there is no way to judge a report without it. The privacy policy covers the rest.

Ending it

You can delete your account from Profile, inside the app, at any time. It removes your listings and their photos, both sides of your chats, your reviews in both directions, your saved items, your blocks and your profile. It cannot be undone. Reports other students filed about you are kept, because safety records that a person can erase are not records.

We can end your access for any of the reasons above.

The legal part

CampusMart is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error free, and we are not liable for what another student does, for a transaction that goes wrong, or for anything you lose as a result. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under Ontario law, including for our own gross negligence.

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
